Keep the record useful.

These rules protect people, source boundaries, and a fair correction path.

1. Name the source

Identify The Canopy Standard, Mud News Package, the public site, or your own interpretation. Do not present a Board position or reader inference as settled canon.

2. Protect people

Do not post harassment, threats, private contact details, account identifiers, payment information, or a person’s protected information. Do not impersonate the author, staff, publications, moderators, or fictional characters.

3. Bound spoilers and claims

Use the book topic for spoiler discussion and name the scope in the title. Keep unresolved motives, relationships, history, and mysteries unresolved unless an authoritative public source settles them.

4. Give the moderator a workable record

Reports use one reason: harassment, privacy, spoiler, impersonation, unsupported claim, or spam. A report opens a private case. It does not erase a post or prove a violation.

Enforcement ladder

  1. Clear technical violations receive a specific rejection before storage.
  2. Links and contextual risks enter private review.
  3. A moderator may approve, annotate, remove, restore, lock, slow, warn, or dismiss.
  4. The affected reader receives the rule and reason and may submit one meaningful appeal.
  5. A later human decision controls over an automated signal. The site does not use shadow bans.

Automation disclosure

The first release uses bounded deterministic checks for markup, control characters, repeated-character spam, link count, duplication, rate limits, and protected handles. No external moderation model or new provider credential processes posts. Contextual cases stay private until the owner reviews them.

Privacy and retention

Public posts show the handle you chose. The site keeps a server-derived identity reference, case records, and the minimum abuse-prevention data needed to protect accounts and review appeals. Public responses omit email, provider subject, internal identity, IP address, and private ledger entries.

Appeals

Open your private appeals. State the decision you contest, the reason, and evidence the moderator should reconsider. Appeals remain private.
